Waka Kotahi- New Zealand Transport Agency has undertaken a very short public consultation on the proposed major Wellington transport project aka – a second Mt Victoria tunnel, a second Terrace tunnel and all the associated works https://nzta.govt.nz/media-releases/engagement-about-to-open-for-major-wellington-transport-project. It is also a very different proposal than the Lets Get Wellington Moving project you may of seen in the past.
The prime reason for two tunnels and associated works is to get people in and out of Wellington Airport. It is after all the only reason there is a State Highway cutting through the city rather than ending at the Terrace Tunnel.
This new proposal will reduce connectivity across the State Highway (particularly in the Hataitai area), remove car-parks (on Vivian Street), remove houses, excavate under houses and schools and take land from the town belt.
